Frequently asked ·
Is this the same as the Skyride at Stone Mountain?
No, though the confusion is understandable and we are asked this often.
The Summit Skyride at Stone Mountain is a reversible aerial tramway: two large cabins travelling in opposition on a fixed rope, one ascending as the other descends. Capacity is high per trip but service is intermittent, and the system must stop to load.
The Overline is a detachable gondola. Cabins are smaller, far more numerous, and uncouple from the haul rope at each station to slow for boarding before recoupling on departure. The line runs continuously. Passengers do not wait for a departure because there are no departures.
